The Retreat Madiha, earlier known as Royal Surf Resort, was home to a well known family in the area. After 2004 Tsunami, they moved to a high land and gave the management of the property to Mr. Gallage, who then landscaped, refurbished and gave it new life to convert it into a holiday friendly accommodation for the budget traveler who is looking for good food, and a quite and friendly place to stay.
The Retreat is an old bungalow converted into a holiday home for the budget traveler. Situated in the hidden surf paradise of Madiha, it has every facility a budget traveler needs to make them feel at home. The manager of the retreat, Mr. Gallage (more known as ‘Gallike’), also the head cook, will take care of all your needs at the hotel. He is very enthusiastic and attentive.
There are two by-roads that lead to the retreat from Galle road. One is Pubudu Mawatha and the other is Sunanda Mawata, both of which are interconnected. The property can be accessed by any type of a van or a car or a mini coach but the road is too narrow to accommodate a luxury coach. Rooms are basic and consists of a writing desk, mirror, attached bathrooms, mosquito net, Fan and all the rooms are tiled. There are 2 Double rooms and 1 Single room. The large garden is big enough for kids to play around, and there are two friendly dogs to safeguard the property. Rooms are lockable and if you want to keep anything in a safe place while you go out, either you may lock the room or hand it over to the manager. The resort gives convenient access to local market, private and public hospitals can be found easily in the nearby town.
Wine & Dine her is your choice. You can ask Gallage, who is also the chef, what's fresh in the market, be it vegetable or sea food dishes, and he will recommend one for you. There is no menu at the Retreat, so you need to let Gallage know if you will be eating in or out beforehand. Gallage is known for his excellent Sri Lankan curries and plentiful portions.
